With longer evenings and a refreshingly crisp chill in the air, we slowly sink into the cosy comforts of autumn. A small window of calm before the rush of the Christmas season, October is the perfect time of year to rest, reflect and indulge in the simple pleasures of home, the outdoors—and of course—fine art. With a rich cornucopia of new arrivals to explore, we invite you to pause with us as we delve into the delights of our collection.
After a positively fantastic opening, our highly anticipated, fourth annual Sean Durkin solo exhibition is now open and in full swing. Shining a light on Britain’s industrial past, Sean Durkin’s work brims with grit and his own wry sense of humour. Interested in the collective struggles and merrymaking of ordinary working people, Sean challenges preconceived notions and readjusts the gaze of the viewer, offering back the boundless pleasures of fine art into the hands of all. With the success of his previous shows and his ever-growing, voraciously keen collector base, browsers and buyers alike will want to be quick! Sean has also hinted at unveiling a few more pieces before the end of the show on 26 October; so do be sure to keep checking the collection throughout to ensure you catch these surprise reveals.
It is with great sadness that we share the news of contemporary British artist Mike Hall’s recent passing. A much-loved artist, husband, father, creator and friend, Mike and his elegantly familiar, inviting paintings touched the hearts and imaginations of many. Mike, his vision and his work will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow artists and the many collectors and admirers who so easily found peace, solace and simple pleasures within his work. His passing is a profound loss for the artistic community and for those fortunate enough to know him; but his legacy lives on in his paintings, each one a quiet, joyful invitation to all.
Congratulations are in order for contemporary artist Annie Luke Turner, who, after recently being selected as a Finalist, has now officially won the Women in Art Prize 2025 in the Abstract Art category. Cementing her status as one of the UK’s most up and coming abstract artists, we couldn’t be happier for Annie on this fantastic and well deserved achievement.
Between Sean’s latest exhibition and a significant influx of work from our body of represented artists, the gallery brims with an outstanding collection, waiting to be discovered. New paintings have arrived from Colin Wilson, Rupert Aker, Terence Clarke, Alex Hill, Edward Hersey, Jay Nottingham, Alan Smith, Andrew Grant Kurtis, Stephen Park and Gordon Lees, with new work also soon expected from Steve Thoms, Carl Whitfield, Julian Mason and Annie Luke Turner. Be sure to check our Recently Acquired page throughout the month for these and any other new pieces to arrive—including any of Sean Durkin’s surprise reveals for his solo show. As ever, if there is anything you particularly are keen to acquire for your collection, do contact a member of the team, who will be happy to help.
