In an abundance of golden colour and a hint of spice in the air, November greets us with bright, familiar comforts and the first taste of the festive season. Here at the gallery, a sense of excitement builds as we welcome an ever-growing collection of outstanding new additions for this most special time of year. With much to celebrate, both now and in the months ahead, we simply cannot wait to share our latest updates with you all in a spirit of gratitude and good cheer.
Congratulations are in order for Sheffield based contemporary pastel artist Ian Rawling, who was awarded two prizes at the 4th International Salon du Pastel exhibition in Saint Brisson Sur Loire, France. Presented by Association Culturelle Artistique, the exhibition brings together 42 renowned pastel artists from sixteen different countries, making Ian’s double-win all the more impressive. Taking home both the City Of Gien award and the Caran d’Ache award, we couldn’t be happier for Ian on this well-deserved achievement.
Christmas at the gallery and in our beloved city is a vibrant time that brims with light and cheer. Those hoping to soak up this festive atmosphere will be delighted to hear that York’s award-winning Christmas market returns from 13 November to 21 December—the perfect excuse for a day out, cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate in hand.
While making your visit, stop by the gallery to view our final exhibition of the year, ‘A Collector’s Christmas’. Opening on 5 December, this mixed show presents an outstanding selection of work from some of the gallery’s biggest names in contemporary British fine art including Edward Hersey, Daniel Van der Putten, Colin Wilson, Raymond Campbell and Tina Spratt.
Finally, for those already pondering gifts for their loved ones this year, the gift of fine art makes a timeless and elegant option. If looking to add an even more personal touch, it’s not too late to commission an entirely bespoke painting to suit your requirements in time for Christmas.
