Raymond Campbell’s work blooms beneath the gaze of the observant viewer. With Bowl of Lemons we are given an especial treat, as beyond the fizzing champagne and glistening, freshly washed lemons, beyond the crimson pop of strawberries and luxuriant creases of the tablecloth, Campbell himself makes an appearance. The artist can be seen at work by his easel, obscured but discernible, reflected in the gleaming silver bowl.
