Soaking up the simple pleasures of fresh air and the first hints of summer days to come, we settle into a new month with unhurried contentment and cheer. The recent arrival of new artwork and artists has given us renewed cause to stop and linger, ever appreciative of the boost fine art can bring.
We like to think of collecting art as its own kind of pause: a way to bring beauty, curiosity, and a sense of calm into everyday spaces. So if these spring days have you in the mood to refresh your surroundings or simply dip your toes into a newfound work of art, we warmly invite you to explore our collection. You never know when you might discover that piece that rewards a second glance.
After an exciting opening, Into Focus continues until the 17th of this month. Bringing together the work of leading artists Colin Wilson, Andrew Talbot, Tina Spratt and Ian Rawling, this mixed show pays tribute to precision, observation, and refined technique. Through meticulous detail, thoughtful composition, and masterful use of light and texture, the work of these artists invites viewers to slow down and engage. Senses become heightened and a quiet narrative unfolds, unveiling layers of meaning and beauty that give weight to the subject and challenge initial perceptions. Through each painstakingly crafted piece, that which was once hazy, hidden, forgotten or overlooked is brought magnificently Into Focus.
After much excitement behind the scenes, we are delighted to announce that later this month we will be welcoming the work of contemporary artist Marissa Weatherhead to the gallery. Bold, rhythmic, and unapologetically abundant, Marissa Weatherhead’s work balances delicate, stylized forms with confident outlines to create rich, harmonious paintings that are gentle and striking in equal measure. Combined with her vivid, expressive colour palette and choice of subject—often seafood, flowers, fruits and glasses of wine—her paintings speak of bounty, celebration and the simple pleasures of specific moments in time. Marissa’s new paintings are due to arrive around mid-May. So do keep an eye on her artist page to see these exciting new additions to our contemporary collection.
This month the gallery has welcomed new paintings from Rupert Aker, Colin Wilson, Alan Smith, Jay Nottingham and Edward Hersey, with new work also soon expected from Raymond Campbell and Carl Whitfield. Don’t forget to check back on our Recently Acquired page over the course of the month to view these and any other new arrivals. But naturally, if there is anything specific you are seeking for your collection, do speak with a member of the team and we will be happy to help.
We hope you will enjoy our May Newsletter. As ever, we thank you for your patronage and look forward to welcoming you to the gallery soon.
