During a brief encounter on Lake Ontario during the North American War of 1812 the American Sloop of war "General Pike" attacked the British sloop " Wolfe".

The "Wolfe"  was eventually dismasted but saved from destruction by the timely arrival of the "Royal George" whose help allowed the "Wolfe" to escape.

The Painting depicts the first exchange of fire as the two warships join in Battle.
