There is something about this time of year that invites us to look a little more closely at our surroundings. As the light softens and autumn begins to settle in, home becomes a place to notice again—the colours on the walls, the changing light across a favourite piece, the objects and artworks that have quietly become part of our everyday life.
As such, this month we’re turning our attention back to art and the ways it enriches our spaces. From works that bring a room together to those that simply catch our eye on an ordinary morning, art has a wonderful way of shaping how a home feels. In our years of experience, we have found time and time again how even a single work of art can completely transform a space. So as the season shifts outside, we shift our gaze within and invite you to pause with us as we take note of the spaces we inhabit: the memories, ideas, colours and pieces that make our surroundings feel personal, considered—and ultimately—like home.
The fifth annual solo exhibition of paintings by contemporary artist Sean Durkin, ‘Sean Durkin: Art for All!’, has opened to a fantastic start, with all but only a few remaining pieces claimed by eager collectors. Shining a light on Britain’s industrial past, Sean’s work brims with grit and the artist’s own wry sense humour. Grounded yet characterised by playfulness, the worlds within Sean’s paintings are filled with memory, merrymaking, mischief-making—and of course—his signature burglar and policeman, which pay tribute to his own now infamous story. With a relatively small number of original pieces and a voracious collector base across the UK and beyond, we would highly recommend viewing the show at the earliest possible opportunity.
One of the many joys of selling fine art is watching the gallery evolve and take on fresh energy as new work arrives to replace those that have been happily taken home. Among the most recent arrivals to grace the gallery walls are paintings by Terence Clarke, Jay Nottingham, Alex Hill, Andrew Grant Kurtis and Rupert Aker. We have also received new bronze sculptures from Michael Simpson, Dean Kendrick and Keith Sherwin, as well as an outstanding collection of original linocut prints from York artist Gerard Hobson. Gerard’s new work will be available on our website shortly, as will a few other pieces due to arrive from our body of represented artists. Pop into the gallery or visit our Recently Acquired page to discover and stay up to date with our latest arrivals.
We hope you enjoy our October Newsletter. As ever, we thank you for your patronage and look forward to welcoming you to the gallery soon.
Yours faithfully,
