Aside from York Minster itself, there is no greater emblem of the historic city than The Shambles. A hodgepodge of delightful, precariously stacked buildings, the street houses some of York’s finest artisan bakeries, cheesemongers, cafes and boutiques. There is an especial magical quality to this famous street come wintertime. A winning scene, Gordon Lees Snowfall on the Shambles is a small, unique treasure amid the artists’ impressive body of work.
