Meet the Artist Event: Sean Durkin
Posted by York Fine Arts / Wednesday 31st of May, 2023
York Fine Arts is delighted to announce that Contemporary Yorkshire artist Sean Durkin will be visiting the gallery on Saturday the 10th of June 2023 to celebrate the opening of his exhibition, ‘Sean Durkin: Art for All!’. From 12:00pm-2:00pm, visitors will have a special opportunity to meet Sean and discuss the exhibition, his work, his inspirations, and his life as a professional artist.
A resounding declaration of the populist nature of fine art, Sean’s paintings shine a light on Britain’s industrial past and its proud working people. Brimming with grit and wry humour, his work tells the stories of ordinary people, readjusting our gaze and rightly offering the myriad pleasures of fine art back, into the hands of all.
Sean’s paintings, while grounded in the realities of industrial life, are also light of heart and filled with playful feats of irony. Entwining narratives see droves of ‘matchstick people’ trudging through worlds of imposing, brutalist shapes, while mischief-making characters and their foils unfold all around. In combining these subtle contrasts and striking, forbidding compositions, Sean guides the eye through a scene, encouraging the viewer to contemplate the lives and resilience of the people held within.
‘Sean Durkin: Art for All!’ opens on Friday, the 9th of June and runs until Sunday, the 2nd of July. All paintings in the exhibition are available for purchase, with signed, limited-edition prints also available. All paintings are also eligible for the Set-Aside and Own Art schemes, which gives collectors the option to spread the cost of a purchase with interest-free payments.
