There is a particular charm to the turning of the seasons. As summer gently gives way to autumn, the world seems to ever so temporarily slow its pace—light softens, colours deepen, and there is a quiet sense of change in the air and an increasing desire to welcome what comes next. Embracing that spirit of transition, this month we are delighted to present a new collection of artwork, introduce a new artist to the gallery and celebrate some of the achievements of the artists already within our fold. So as we move into this new season, we warmly invite you to join us in exploring what is new, what is unfolding, and what continues to inspire. 

It was a delight to see that contemporary artist Terence Clarke’s newest painting, ‘Olive Oil and Lemons’ has been featured in the 500th edition of ‘Artists and Illustrators’ magazine. Walking readers through the creation of the painting every step of the way, Terence sheds new light on his process and practice. A thoughtfully composed celebration of the visual world distilled into its most basic elements of shape, colour and tone, it’s a fascinating insight into the mind of a classically trained artist. Copies are available on newsstands now, and we also have a copy here at the gallery our visitors are more than welcome to explore.

This month we are also delighted to announce that the gallery has recently welcomed the work of renowned contemporary Scottish artist Jennifer Irvine RGI, RSW to the gallery.  Pairing rich, vivid colours with a profusion of pattern and shape, the work of Jennifer Irvine explores the interplay of light and shade to full, chromatic effect. Immersive and transportive, her work embraces a diverse range of subjects from intimate still lifes to sparkling seascapes, charming townscapes to lush garden scenes. 

A graduate of the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, Jennifer has maintained a strong presence in the art world over the course of her career. She obtained membership to the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI) in 2015 and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) in 2016, and has won numerous awards including The David Cargill Award, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Award, The Mark Greer Award and The Sir William Gillies Award. Her work can The Robert Fleming Collection, widely considered the finest collection of Scottish art outside public institutions. Visit her artist page to find out more and see her available work. 

In addition to the work of Jennifer Irvine, this month the gallery has received an outstanding collection of paintings from Carl Whitfield, Terence Clarke, Rupert Aker, Alan Smith, Jay Nottingham, Kate Lycett, Stephen Hawkins and Andrew Grant Kurtis, with new bronze sculptures from Michael Simpson, Dean Kendrick and Keith Sherwin also very soon expected to arrive. We have also received word from plein air landscape artist Julian Mason that new paintings from his recent travels should be with us in the next few weeks.
