On the brink of the unfolding summer ahead, we send our warmest greetings to you all. Here at the gallery, the unparalleled energy and excitement pulsing through the streets of York delightfully overflows through our welcome doors where it has been wonderfully mirrored within our own collection. With an ambitious season of shows in store and a sensational new selection of fine art, we could not be more thrilled to share our latest updates with friends, visitors and collectors old and new.
Nothing quite heralds the arrival of summer like a bright, bold and invigorating collection of fine art. The gallery’s Summer Exhibition does just that, bringing together a handpicked selection of original paintings and sculpture reminiscent of the colours, experience and simple pleasures of summer. Through the eyes of leading contemporary artists including Terence Clarke, Mike Hall and Dianne Flynn, this mixed show dives headfirst into the myriad moments of the summer experience, providing a swift escape in which to soak up the delights of the season. The exhibition opens on 20 June and runs until 13 July.
Looking further ahead, one of the gallery’s most highly anticipated shows of the year is now just around the corner! As we celebrate 10 years of solo shows with renowned Yorkshire artist Clare Haley, this year’s exhibition, which runs from 1-24 August, is set to be the most impressive yet. With a spellbinding collection of original paintings, some exclusive new collectors’ pieces and an exciting chance to meet Clare here at the gallery on Saturday, 2 August, we simply cannot wait to unveil all that we have in store. More details will be released in the run up to the show; but in the meantime, be sure to register for a preview catalogue to ensure you get the first look (and pick!) of the collection.
Embracing the seasonal bounty of summer, this month the gallery has received an outstanding selection of work from artists including Edward Hersey, Rupert Aker, Carl Whitfield, Alex Hill, Steve Thoms, Stephen Hawkins, Natalie Stutely, Richard Telford, Andrew Grant Kurtis and Gerard Hobson. New work is also shortly expected from Terence Clarke, Daniel Van der Putten and Sean Durkin. So do keep an eye on our Recently Acquired page to spot these and any other new additions to arrive throughout the course of the month.
We hope you will enjoy our June Newsletter. As ever, we thank you for your patronage and look forward to welcoming you to the gallery soon.
