York Fine Arts is delighted to welcome the work of two new contemporary artists to the gallery: Somerset based Marissa Weatherhead and Yorkshire artist Kate Lycett. Both highly collectible artists of recognition within their respective genres, the work of these two artists has brought yet another exciting edge to the York Fine Arts collection.
Primarily a still life artist, Marissa Weatherhead’s work is bold, rhythmic and unapologetically abundant. With nods to the cubist works of Braque and Picasso and an even stronger influence from the arabesque paintings of Matisse, Marissa’s colourful paintings are deeply rooted in the rich heritage of contemporary fine art while embracing an exuberant style all their own. Often depicting lavish arrangements of seafood, florals and wine, her paintings pulse with a joyful undercurrent of celebration and simple pleasures.

Yorkshire artist Kate Lycett is renowned for her vibrant, dynamic landscapes of Yorkshire and beyond. Gracefully weaving warmth and draughtsmanship into the innermost fabric of her work, Kate’s work is both decorative and technical. Her background in textile design is evident through her opulent use of colour and pattern, layering inks, acrylics and watercolours to achieve a rich depth of colour and texture as she interprets the world around her.

We could not be happier to welcome Marissa and Kate to the gallery. To view their available work and find out more about their backgrounds and practice, visit their individual artist pages.
